U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) announced this week that Beyonce Landa, an 11th grade student at Port Charlotte High School, is the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. The first-place winner, Landa, was pictured holding her piece, “Delicate Eulogy,” alongside her parents, Yenley & Bernardo Landa.
“Congratulations to Beyonce for her outstanding achievement in winning this year’s Congressional Art Competition,” said Rep. Greg Steube. “Her piece, ‘Delicate Eulogy,’ is a testament to her talent and creativity. I am excited to see her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol.”
The competition this year witnessed remarkable submissions from students across the district, demonstrating the vast artistic talent within the community. Thanh Nguyen, a 12th grade student at Port Charlotte High School, secured second place with his piece, “Isolation.” Meanwhile, Shane Alba, a 12th grade student from Sarasota High School claimed third place with “Blue Heron Hunting for Dinner.”
Organized by the Congressional Institute, the Congressional Art Competition aims to celebrate and encourage artistic talent among high school students nationwide. Since its inception in 1982, it has provided a platform for over 650,000 students to express their creativity and passion for the arts. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington D.C., with the first-place winner given the opportunity to display their artwork at the United States Capitol for one year.
Rep. Greg Steube expressed his gratitude to all participating students in this year’s competition and commended their dedication to the arts. Their contributions enrich not only Florida’s 17th Congressional District but also extend beyond its borders.
