U.S. Representative Greg Steube has introduced a bill aimed at abolishing the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and halting its federal funding. The proposed legislation would rescind unobligated taxpayer funds and transfer USAID’s assets and essential responsibilities to the U.S. Department of State.

Steube criticized USAID, stating, “For too long, USAID has funneled billions of American tax dollars into bloated, inefficient foreign aid programs that are riddled with waste, corruption and ideological bias.” He expressed concern that the agency’s initiatives often promote progressive social agendas that do not align with American values and interests.

Highlighting what he perceives as a misalignment with U.S. national interests, Steube accused the agency of funding projects that undermine American sovereignty and security priorities. “American taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize misguided globalist experiments that do nothing to strengthen our country or protect our interests abroad,” he said.

The bill directs the State Department to take over necessary functions related to essential foreign aid transitions, aiming for a more streamlined and accountable approach to international engagement.

“It’s time to put America first,” Steube added. “We cannot afford to continue pouring money into an unaccountable bureaucracy that prioritizes global bureaucrats and political pet projects over the needs of hardworking Americans. My bill ends USAID’s wasteful operations and redirects taxpayer dollars toward strengthening our nation’s priorities.”
