A 45-floor building that would become the tallest condo on Florida’s West Coast when St. Petersburg’s Development Review Commission approved creation of a $300 million complex that would include the condos, a hotel, an office building, retail space and a parking garage with more than 800 spaces.
The commission is made up of St. Petersburg City Council members.
Council member Brandi Gabbard was not present for the unanimous vote.
The complex would take up 2.27 acres in downtown St. Petersburg, bounded by Central Avenue, First Avenue S and Fourth and Fifth streets.
The Red Apple Group, based in New York City, will need to clear a few more hurdles before it can break ground for the development; one is approval from the Federal Aviation Administration because the 515-foot condo tower is close to Albert Whitted Airport.
The group is hoping to begin site preparation in the next few months.
