June 17, 2022, marks the 50th anniversary of the break-in at the National Democratic Headquarters in the Washington, D.C. Watergate Office Building. Subsequent investigations revealed the burglars were hired by the Committee for the Re-Election of the President (CRP or CREEP), and the ensuing political cover-up turned scandal ultimately resulted in the resignation of President Richard Nixon on August 9, 1974, the first time a U.S. president resigned the office.
