CRACKDOWN ON APPLIANCE THEFT

On March 14, 2023, DeSoto County Sheriff's Office assisted Lee County Sheriff's Office after receiving reports of theft at a construction site in Lee County. The stolen appliances were tracked from the construction site to the Arcadia Walmart at 2725 SE Highway 70.

DCSO assisted in the investigation by locating the suspect, Francisco Miriel Borjas Fernandez, 52, who was in possession of several stolen vanity mirrors and Samsung Home Appliances retailing a total value of $13,482. The DCSO Criminal Investigative Division detectives located the suspect and the stolen items in the parking lot, then Francisco was brought into the Sheriff's Office for an interview investigation.

DCSO and LCSO worked a joint investigation which led us to conduct a search warrant at the residence, 1832 SE Peach Drive, in relation to the charge of Burglary of an Unoccupied Dwelling and Grand Theft. During the search we recovered more stolen appliances, cabinets and other kitchen items, some of which are pending investigation to determine ownership. Additionally, DCSO obtained a search warrant on the vehicle and recovered the other stolen items.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office will now continue the investigation as local charges are pending.

Sheriff Potter is proud of our hard-working detectives that assisted LCSO to return one of the appliances back to the owner!
