DeSoto County Sheriff's Office urges you to celebrate resonsibly on one of the biggest drinking days of the year. St. Patrick's Day is the third most popular drinking day in America, and also one of the deadliest times on the road due to alcohol-related accidents.
Durirng the 2020 St. Patrick's Day period, more than 36% of crash fatalities involved a drunk driver. From 2016 to 2020, 287 lives were lost in drunk-driving related crashes during this time.
Please remember buzzed driving is drunk driving! If you plan to drink, don't put yourself behind the wheel. Remember, walking while intoxicated can also be deadly. Pedestrians who have been drinking should arrange for a sober ride or for a sober friend to walk them home.
