U.S. Representative Greg Steube has announced the winner of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge for Florida's 17th Congressional District. The top prize was awarded to Rohan Dash, an 11th-grade student from Pine View School, for his app "Citrus AI."
Rep. Steube commented on the competition: “The FL-17 Congressional App Challenge showcased remarkable talent, with students addressing real-world challenges through innovation and creativity. Rohan Dash’s Citrus AI app stands out as a meaningful solution to support one of Florida’s most important industries. I applaud all participants for their impressive work and look forward to seeing the great achievements they’ll bring to the tech world.”
The winning application, Citrus AI, aims to assist Florida's citrus industry by analyzing crop health, predicting potential threats, and optimizing resource use.
Other notable entries included Destiny Rose Cavite from Booker Middle School, who secured second place with her Volunteer Service app, and Ben Brunckhorst from The Out-of-Door Academy, who achieved third place with his Goose Tail app.
The annual Congressional App Challenge invites students to develop original applications with winners' projects displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for a year. Winners are also invited to attend the #HouseofCode event in Washington DC and may apply for a copyright fee waiver under the ARTS Act if they choose to register their creations.
