U.S. Representative Greg Steube, a Republican from Florida, has reintroduced The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act with the support of 56 original Republican cosponsors. This legislation aims to ensure that school athletics comply with Title IX by recognizing a person's reproductive biology and genetics at birth.

"The radical left is not in step with the American people on the issue of protecting women’s sports," stated Rep. Steube. He further emphasized, "Americans have loudly spoken that they do not want men stealing sports records from women, entering their daughters’ locker rooms, replacing female athletes on teams, and taking their daughters’ scholarship opportunities. My legislation stands for truth, safety, and reality: men have no place in women’s sports."

The bill seeks to ensure that biological females compete against other biological females in sports operated or facilitated by recipients of federal funding. President Trump has expressed support for this initiative, stating it will be official policy under his administration that there are only two genders — male and female.

House Republicans included Rep. Steube's bill as part of the 119th Congress rules package. Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg commented on the intent behind Title IX: "Title IX was created to give women and girls equal access to education and sports. Unfortunately, the intent of Title IX is under direct assault from the radical left." He added that Rep. Steube's act would ensure fairness by preventing biological males from competing in women's sports.

Rep. Steube has been advocating for women's sports for several years in Congress. In the 118th Congress, his bill passed with a vote of 219-203 without any Democratic support but was not considered by the Senate under Democrat Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

In previous efforts during the 117th Congress, Rep. Steube collaborated with former Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Banks to file a discharge petition for The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which garnered 187 signatures.
