U.S. Representative Greg Steube participated in a U.S. Chamber Roundtable in North Venice, Florida, to discuss the renewal of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017. The event took place at the Ajax Paving Industry complex, focusing on the benefits of this legislation and the potential risks to small businesses and local industries on the Suncoast if Congress does not renew it.

Rep. Steube highlighted the appeal of Southwest Florida for small business owners and entrepreneurs pursuing the American dream. He stated, "There is a reason small business owners and entrepreneurs look to Southwest Florida to pursue the American dream. No community better represents and embraces the values of free enterprise than the Suncoast." Reflecting on the impacts of the TCJA, Steube emphasized the prosperity achieved for employers and employees, noting, "Since its passage in 2017, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) has delivered unprecedented prosperity for employers and employees alike. From streamlining corporate taxation to providing a critical tax deduction for small business development, the TCJA has delivered on its promise."

Steube warned of the consequences if the TCJA is not renewed, describing it as "catastrophic" for Southwest Florida and the nation. He advocated for the extension of the TCJA to ensure continued prosperity and competitiveness, saying, "Extending the TCJA will ensure our businesses and local industries prosper and remain competitive in the global economy for years to come."

The TCJA included significant tax changes, such as a 20% deduction for qualified business income and a reduction in the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%. Following its implementation, median household income saw a significant increase, and Americans earning between $15,000 to $50,000 received notable tax relief. A study from the National Federation of Independent Business projected that the TCJA’s provisions could create one million new jobs annually over the next decade.

After his remarks, Steube was recognized by the National Asphalt and Paving Association and toured the Ajax Paving Industries facility, concluding with a meet-and-greet with employees.
