U.S. Representative Greg Steube, alongside 59 of his colleagues, has introduced The Iranian Terror Prevention Act aimed at fully sanctioning and designating 11 Iranian proxy organizations as foreign terrorist organizations (FTO). Rep. Steube emphasized the necessity of combatting terrorism with boldness and strength, stating, “Iran has long utilized proxy forces to execute their terror agenda throughout the region.”

The Republican Study Committee (RSC) has expressed its support for the legislation, with Chairman Kevin Hern highlighting the urgent need to designate all of Iran’s proxy militias as terrorist organizations. Hern emphasized the close ties between Iran and its puppet militias, stating, “These militias have killed Americans and wrecked havoc in the Middle East and across the world.”

Echoing these sentiments, RSC National Security Task Force Chairman Joe Wilson emphasized the importance of cutting off Iran’s network of terrorist puppets, particularly in light of the recent brutal attack on Israel. Wilson stressed the commitment of these groups to anti-American and anti-Israel ideologies, calling for their immediate designation as terrorist organizations.

The legislation put forth by Rep. Steube requires the Secretary of State to designate several organizations as FTOs, including those responsible for attacks on U.S. troops and allies in the Middle East. Additionally, the bill mandates reports on new entities meeting the criteria for FTO designation or sanctions.

Supported by organizations like Christians United for Israel, Organization of Iranian American Communities, and National Union for Democracy in Iran, the legislation aims to address the threat posed by Iranian proxy forces and strengthen measures against terrorism.
