City of Panama issued the following announcement.
Bay County and its city and healthcare partners have launched a public information campaign aimed at encouraging people to take voluntary action to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.
The $50,000 effort is funded via the CARES Act and will utilize a variety of media channels, including television, print, billboards, radio, digital and social media to ask the public to “Be a Hero” in the fight against COVID-19.
“In Bay County, we know what it means to ‘Be a Hero’,” Bay County Commission Chairman Philip “Griff” Griffitts said. “After Hurricane Michael, each of us was a hero to someone, in some way, as we worked together to help each other through recovery. Now, due to the pandemic, we have another opportunity to be a hero, but this time by simply wearing a face covering, washing your hands and staying home when you’re sick.”
The “Be a Hero” campaign aims to encourage the public to adhere to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), particularly regarding social distancing, protecting vulnerable populations, mask wearing when distancing is impossible and personal hygiene.
