U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) has unveiled a new installment in the Veterans History Project Series, highlighting the military service of veterans from Florida’s 17th District. The latest interview showcases the experiences of United States Navy veteran Don Wilson.

In response to Wilson's interview, Congressman Steube expressed gratitude, stating, “Florida’s 17th district is grateful to have another American hero share their story of military service. Mr. Wilson’s testimony is a valuable example of patriotism for younger generations to follow.”

Reflecting on his time in the Navy, Wilson emphasized the transformative nature of military service, remarking, “That’s what the military does, it allows you to have that camaraderie, it allows you to mature as a person, as a man, and as a leader gives you tremendous leadership opportunities.” He further highlighted the significant sacrifice made by servicemen and women, noting, “These guys and gals that go in and serve their country they’re basically signing a blank, up to and including their lives. That’s kind of a big deal.”

Wilson underscored the profound commitment made by those in the military, stating, “People that sign on the dotted line and sign that contract to be a Sailor, Marine, Air Force Airman, or Coast Guard, they’re signing on the dotted line that they’ll give their life and that’s really powerful.”

The interview with Wilson will be submitted to the Veterans History Project, an initiative by the Library of Congress’s American Folklife Center aimed at preserving the oral histories of American veterans. Established in 2000, the project seeks to collect and make accessible the personal accounts of veterans and Gold Star Families, providing valuable insights for future generations.

Individuals residing in Florida’s 17th congressional district are encouraged to participate in the Veterans History Project by visiting the official website of Congressman Greg Steube. The initiative welcomes veterans from all branches and ranks of the United States military who have served in conflicts ranging from World War I to more recent engagements.
