City of Panama issued the following announcement.
The City of Panama City is pleased to announce the promotion of David Collier as the new Fire Chief for the Panama City Fire Department.
City Manager Mark McQueen and senior staff received 25 applications for the position and interviewed seven candidates, with Collier being the best fit to lead the 83-member Fire Department.
Collier has been with the City for 13 years, rising through the ranks from an entry-level firefighter to Battalion Chief.
“Collier’s expansive fire department knowledge and skills will be an asset in our continued efforts to provide the highest level of safety and security to our community,” said McQueen. “He possesses extraordinary technical knowledge of fire and emergency medical services, embodies a proactive leadership style, and is committed to serving the citizens of Panama City.”
Collier has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a Minor in Emergency Services Management, a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science and numerous certifications.
"The Panama City Fire Department has had a proud history of serving the community since 1912, and I am honored to lead the department and continue the spirit of service,” said Collier. “I am committed to following the City’s motto ‘Dedicated to Excellence…People Serving People.’”
In addition to his fire service career, Collier also served in the United States Air Force for six years as a Munitions Systems Journeyman.
Collier will be sworn in as Chief at the City Commission Meeting on Tuesday, November 10, 2020.
