Charlotte County issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.
The Charlotte County Utilities Department is requesting that its customers make a voluntary effort to conserve water for the next 30 days. Due to water facility maintenance in our region, the treatment and delivery of normal water quantities may be impacted.
Mike Coates, executive director for the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority stated the authority’s Peace River Water Treatment Facility is operating at 75% capacity due to rehabilitation work that started in the spring. Recently, water treatment facilities belonging to two of the authority’s customers were taken off-line for emergency repairs, and those repairs are being delayed by parts and materials availability. The confluence of temporarily reduced production capacity and rapidly increasing public water use this fall is the reason for the voluntary reduction request.
You can do your part by minimizing your water usage. Some water-saving examples include limiting irrigation, fixing leaks around your house and taking a shorter shower.
Charlotte County is a member of the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority, as well as DeSoto, Sarasota, and Manatee Counties. The Authority also serves the City of North Port and the City of Punta Gorda.
