WASHINGTON —  U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) has called on Congress to provide much-needed tax relief for Floridians who are still recovering from the devastating impact of Hurricane Ian. In a statement released on the first anniversary of the hurricane's landfall in Florida, Representative Steube emphasized the urgency of the situation.

"Floridians are still waiting for Congress to do its job and provide much-needed tax relief," said U.S. Representative Greg Steube. "Many of our neighbors are still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, with tarps on their roofs, unfinished home repairs, and insurance decisions pending. Schools are waiting for FEMA funding, and families are in need of financial assistance. It is imperative that Congress recognizes the lasting devastation caused by Hurricane Ian and takes action to provide the relief that Floridians deserve."

Representative Steube has introduced H.R. 1331, a bill that would provide income tax relief for Floridians recovering from Hurricane Ian by designating it as a qualified disaster event. The bill is currently awaiting further action in the House Committee on Ways and Means, led by Chairman Jason Smith. Representative Steube, who is a member of the committee, has been urging House leadership and Chairman Smith to prioritize the bill.

"My bill, H.R. 1331, will provide the much-needed tax relief for Floridians impacted financially by Hurricane Ian," said Representative Steube. "I will continue to work tirelessly for my constituents and push for its passage until the relief is delivered."

Floridians have shown resilience in the face of multiple severe hurricanes over the past year. However, the road to recovery is long, and the financial burden on affected individuals and families remains significant. Representative Steube's call for tax relief aims to alleviate some of the financial hardships faced by those impacted by Hurricane Ian.
